Planning applications are made through South Somerset District Council and will be reviewed and monitored by a Planning Officer. However Langport Town Council will be consulted for observations. If a planning application has been made in an area close to your home you will most likely receive a letter advising you of the application. The flowers, hanging baskets and tubs in places such as the car park and Bow Street are planted and maintained by way of partnership working between Langport Town Council and Langport Area Business Group along with various volunteers.

Waste that is dumped in and around the town is cleared up by South Somerset District Council. South Somerset District Council is also responsible for clearing up and collecting of materials that have been dumped without permission on a highway or a council-owned land. They also investigate all incidents of fly-tipping for possible prosecution. Their contact number is 01935 462462. If the materials that are fly-tipped are hazardous, for example waste oil, fuel or asbestos, then please contact Somerset County Council on 0300 123 2224. If the fly-tip is on private land, we suggest reporting it to the police.

South Somerset District Council can remove cats, badgers and deer around the town or on council owned land. Somerset County Highways should be called for carcasses that are likely to cause danger, i.e. in the road, you can contact them by calling 0300 123 2224 or visiting their website www.somerset.gov.uk
South Somerset District Council is responsible for a number of operations within the town. such as the removal of litter, emptying of litter bins, dog bins, removing fly tipping, removal of graffiti and weed spraying.
