South Somerset households reminded on quick return of annual Register of Electors enquiry form
South Somerset residents will be receiving the annual Register of Electors enquiry form over the coming weeks and are reminded to ensure the form is completed promptly.
All councils carry out an annual check of the electoral register. This is known as the annual canvass. During the annual canvass, South Somerset District Council sends a form to every household in the district – around 78,000 – to check that the people registered to vote at that address are correct.
Every household is required to respond so that the authority can make sure the data they hold is correct and up-to-date. Even if someone in the property only recently registered to vote, the council still need a response to the form.
South Somerset District Council are asking householders to respond to the enquiry form as quickly as possible. Completing and returning the form will also help save the cost of sending reminders of follow-up visits.
Save time, do it online
Residents are encouraged to complete the return of the form online via our dedicated website at www.hef-response.co.uk/southsomerset. To use this secure website, you will need your postcode and the unique 2-part security code that is printed on the form.
Choose how you vote
The enquiry form also allows an existing elector to request an application form to vote by post or proxy. If an elector already has a permanent postal or proxy vote then this will be indicated on the form.
Young adults who are 16 or 17 years of age should be included on the form, so the electoral registration team can send them a registration form to enable them to register and vote once they turn 18.
My details are correct on the form
If all your household details are correct, you just need to confirm the details on the form by responding online, by telephone (01935 462462), or by signing it and sending back to the Council.
Councillor Peter Seib, portfolio holder for Finance, Legal & Democratic Services, said: “Register of Elector forms have already hit the doormats of thousands of properties across South Somerset and we have seen a large number already completed and returned to us, mainly using the online method which is by far the easiest, cheapest and most convenient way of completing the return. I would encourage as many people to complete their forms online and beat the deadline before we have to then start chasing non-returned forms.”
I have not received an enquiry form
