Network Rail have started work on several projects in South Somerset to improve railway infrastructure along the line between Taunton and Castle Cary. This work will include; embankment stabilisation, eight bridge renewals and installation of new drainage systems in Somerton tunnel.
For just over two weeks from Saturday 14 March until Sunday 29 March, their staff will be working 24/7 at various locations while the railway is closed.
Rail replacement coach services will be provided between Taunton and Castle Cary and some diversions will be in force, adding extra time to your journey as follows:
From Saturday 14 March until Sunday 29 March:
- Trains between the South West and London Paddington will be diverted via Bristol
- Timetables will be amended, and journey times extended by around 30 minutes
- A shuttle train service will run between Castle Cary and London Paddington every two hours
- Coach replacement services will run between Taunton and Castle Cary, with a journey time of up to 1 hour
Following the work, a temporary speed restriction will be put in place.
