Work started well this week on the clock restoration.
Unfortunately we have hit our problem. Whilst our contractor was removing the lead flashing covering the beam that supports/suspends the clock casing he discovered it was severely rotted.
We have had a structural engineer take a look and he has deemed it unsafe.
The clock casing will be removed by using a crane on Monday 3 September at 9.30am.
The scaffolding and lights will be removed on Tuesday 4 September. Then planning will take place on replacing the support beam as soon as possible
This is a major problem and unfortunately it has huge cost implications. We are very sorry for a inconvenience caused with this recent development and would be grateful for your continued support and patience during this time.
