POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
The Council operates under a series of rules. While these may seem rather complicated and detailed, they are designed to protect everyone’s rights and to give you the confidence that the Council is properly run. The policies and procedures in this section are reviewed and updated regularly, but if you have any comments or suggestions for improvements, please let us know.
Standing Orders form the basis under which the Town Council operates. They lay down, amongst other things, how the business of the Council will be conducted, how Councillors are expected to behave and the responsibilities of both Councillors and employees. The Financial Regulations form the basis of the way in which Langport Town Council uses the monies raised from Council Tax payers and other sources. They are regularly reviewed to ensure that they keep in line with the Finance and Accounting Regulations to which the Town Council has to adhere. The Councillors’ Code of Conduct lays down the way in which Councillors are expected to behave both when fulfilling their duties on behalf of the Council and when dealing with members of the public. The current code can be viewed by clicking on the above link.
Langport Town Council is committed to providing a quality service for the benefit of the people who live or work in its area or are visitors to the locality. If you are dissatisfied with the standard of service you have received from this Council, or are unhappy about an action or lack of action by this Council, this document sets out how you may make a complaint and how we will deal with it. It does not relate to Councillors who are covered by the Councillors’ Code of Conduct (above).
Each year Langport Town Council allocates a specific amount of money to be made available as grants to organisations, clubs, societies and groups who help to build a sustainable community and economy for the residents of Langport. This protocol is intended as a guide for Councillors, Officers and employees in their dealings with one another and as a supplement to the Councillors’ Code of Conduct. To a large extent the protocol is a statement of practice and convention which is intended to provide clarity.
This guidance covers how the Council will treat its employees. It includes our policies on equal opportunities, harassment and dignity at work, and data protection, and our procedures on grievances and disciplinary matters.
Within this policy, Langport Town Council ensures that a high standard of health and safety is achieved and maintained, as a responsible employer.
This Publication Scheme has been prepared in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act and tells you how you can find the information held by Langport Town Council.
Langport Town Council seeks to care for the environment in all that it does – directly and indirectly – and to influence others to do the same. This Charter sets out how we will try to do this.
This policy is intended to provide guidance on the permitted advertisement within the Information Centre, on the railings of the Town Hall and on Council Notice Boards.
Langport Town Council is committed to being open and transparent in the way it conducts its decision making. Recording, including filming, audio recording, taking photographs, blogging, tweeting and using other social media websites is permitted at Council meetings which are open to the public, subject to this policy.
The Council is expected to review its financial risks regularly and to act prudently.
This policy is intended to help Councillors and Council staff make appropriate decisions about the use of social media.
Our vision is that Langport will become a destination where visitors have a good experience, businesses thrive, the environment is enhanced, and the community benefits. This strategy describes how we plan to work towards this.
The Council recognises that training and development for Councillors and employees is a major investment in its ability to deliver effective products and services and will seek to create a culture of continuous development.
