PARISH COUNCILS

Langport Town Council is a parish council. Parish councils are the closest elected bodies to their communities. We have legal powers and duties to take action on behalf of our residents.  Parish councils can provide facilities like:

  • allotments
  • public clocks
  • bus shelters
  • toilets
  • community centres
  • play areas and play equipment
  • grants to help local organisations
  • consultation on neighbourhood planning

We are in the district of South Somerset.  South Somerset District Council are responsible for services like:

  • rubbish collection

  • Council Tax collections
  • housing
  • planning applications
